Where we fly
The owner of Ashcroft airfield at Wettenhall has kindly granted us the use of a runway and some of the facilities at his field. He has also provided us with a parking area, pits area and storage space. This has the potential to be an excellent flying site, although it must be borne in mind that it is an active airfield handling full size (albeit light) aircraft. It is therefore essential that full size aircraft movements must always take precedence over model flying. Members may not fly any model until they have been briefed on the correct procedures and no-fly zones associated with the use of the field – this is not as onerous as it may sound.
When the club first started using Ashcroft Airfield were also granted us the use of the airfield clubhouse together with use of tea and coffee making facilities as well as a small selection of snacks and chocolate bars available to purchase under an “honesty box” system. Toilet facilities are also available. In 2019 a new social area was made alongside the pits area, this included a tent for shelter. In 2020 further progress was made and our own club house was erected.
During 2018 a new strip was cut for microlight aircraft, we now also have use of that strip, with a secondary pit area, as an option when weather conditions require it’s use. This strip is conveniently opposite our primary pits area.
We have:
- reserved parking space for our use,
- our own pathway to the flying area,
- with clearly defined social and pits areas,
- an optional second strip to use when necessary,
- and our own club house.
The field has developed beyond our expectations and we are very optimistic about our future here.
